Flowers have long been a timeless symbol of weddings and celebrations, and they have always held deep meaning and purpose. It’s almost impossible to imagine a wedding without them! Flowers and greenery can completely transform your wedding venue, and they will add that vibrant pop of color that will make your celebration magical.
Many moons ago, I worked as a wedding florist in Durham, North Carolina so my passion and love for all things wedding florals runs deep. Plus, I have to say that as a wedding photographer, they’re so much fun to photograph!
If you’re currently on a mission to find the perfect Asheville floral preservationist, then you don’t need to look any further than Golden Preserved. They are an incredible wedding floral preservation business that allows you to cherish and enjoy the flowers from your wedding forever in beautiful, unique ways!
Read on to learn more about Tia, the owner of Golden Preserved, and discover what it would be like to work with her.
There’s no beating around the bush, so I’ll just say it: flowers are expensive! But really anything involving your wedding day is going to be an investment.
Your investment in florals is different from, say, a wedding photographer because as soon as your flowers are plucked, snipped, and put into an arrangement, the clock is ticking! You really only get to enjoy them for a day, and then they end up in the trash a few days later. Tragic.
However, your flowers don’t just have to leave with the rest of the guests once your celebration is over; rather, you can choose to preserve them forever. I think this makes the investment into real flowers for your wedding absolutely worth it!
Preserving wedding flowers involves dehydrating fresh flowers to create keepsakes that last for years. The process removes moisture from the flowers to maintain their color, shape, and structure.
Wedding vendors like myself always talk about the magic of your wedding day and the joy of sharing it with your friends and family. Photos allow you to relive those moments over and over again while preserving your florals gives you a tangible keepsake to admire and display in your home.
Tia is a floral preservationist based out of Western North Carolina. But how did she get here? In her 20s, Tia dropped off wedding cakes, set out the floral arrangements, served hors d’oeuvres, cleaned up glasses to the DJ mix, and trashed all the leftovers.
She always admired the forgotten flowers and always ended her shifts with a few stems in hand. Tia knew that she wanted to do something different, so she decided to completely immerse herself in flower preservation.
Tia took a leap of faith, and in June 2022, Golden Preserved blossomed into reality.
Some fun facts about Tia are that she lived in the PNW during pastry school, loves cooking large meals for friends, has a BA in creative writing, and loves having dance parties in her living room.
“Golden Preserved used to be Golden Baked Goods; it used to be a girl who wanted a bakery, who was a pastry chef, had multiple jobs to get by, took flowers home after shifts at weddings, and always had a bundle drying in the back of a closet.
The history of Golden Preserved is my history. It would never have been a thing if I hadn’t gone through all those jobs, the career change that didn’t work out, and all the boyfriends that didn’t either.
Golden Preserved could only be grown from the grief of a different life and the hope of creating something that could not only sustain me but also be sustainable. I love every single day now, and I love knowing that my art lasts longer than eating a cookie.” – Tia, Owner of Golden Preserved.
“I get to make art with flowers that hold so many stories, which brings daily joy to someone else’s life. This isn’t a job for me; it’s a lifestyle I have curated, making art every day, making things for people, and having the freedom to grow and create at my own pace.” – Tia
What makes Tia’s process of preserving and displaying your florals different from other floral preservations? She uses a high-quality resin that takes years to perfect as an art.
Resin that ensures your flowers retain most of their colors, depth, and luster. This process allows Tia to unleash her creativity when displaying your flowers in unique ways, such as engineering shadow boxes that present your flowers in a way that honors the memory of how they looked on your wedding day.
Also, Tia uses art-grade glass on her frames which is UV protectant, taking extra steps to ensure that your pieces last ‘til your golden years.
If you want something that can be used in your everyday life, her resin art is truly one of a kind. You can take the flowers that you thought were just going to get thrown away and instead have them turned into things like coasters that you can look at and use every single day!
From Tia, “I take something that’s supposed to be fleeting or temporary and craft it into these works of art that can be enjoyed for years. But there are other flower preservationists out there. I knew I wanted my frames to stand out, so I worked with a local shop called Frugal Framer.
They helped me with creating a floating shadow box. The floating shadow box gives me the depth of the shadow box with a modern look of the floating frame that is found more often with pressed flowers. I don’t press any of my flowers and leave them all dimensional!”
Golden Preserved has a variety of different products they use to preserve your florals, including:
“Inquire as soon as you book that florist! I am a one-woman show and can only accommodate so many bouquets a season and this is a time-sensitive process.
A $100 deposit secures your date and goes toward your final collection–which you don’t have to decide until after your flowers are dry!
Bouquets should be dropped off within two days of the wedding or overnight shipped on the next available shipping day. The fresher the bouquet, the better they will preserve.
A bouquet takes two months to dry, and then we chat and design together. I send over that invoice and begin making your art! The turnaround time for your collection is at maximum, 6-8 months. By the way – this is a GREAT thing to put on your registry! I even have gift cards available.” – Tia, Owner of Golden Preserved Floral Preservation
